Hello – there’s been a bit of a hiatus over the last couple of weeks – thought it might be worth kickstarting with a series of links to particular eLearning tools and some ideas about how they could be used in a Language and Literacy context.
First off the rank is VoiceThread – one of a number of online audio discussion boards on which learners can discuss topics uploaded as video, audio, text. Teachers/Students can leave messages about the topic which others can comment on at a time which suits them – this allows for considered language practice. Fiona Gilmore fore example has created a virtual art gallery as part of an elective in which students comment on various well known paintings.
An introduction to the tools can be found by clicking on the image below.
Membership is free (albeit to a ‘basic’ version) – you can click on the image below to go to the home page and join up – have a ‘browse’ for ‘ESL’ or ‘Literacy’ etc. to see some examples of how it’s used.
Let us know if you’re using it or if you can think of any applications for your course/s.
Suggestions for other tools you think are useful for L & L teaching & Learning are very welcome.
