eLearning Environment announced!

Just in case you missed the VU-wide email – VU has a new eLearning environment. Well…. a choice has been made but we have to wait a little while yet i.e.

Planning for this program of implementation is underway and further details will be communicated once they have been confirmed. The program is working towards having the environment available for staff from Semester 2 2013, with full go-live in semester 1, 2014. I look forward to your support of this initiative.

More information will be made available in time, but to get an idea of the D2L suite (I’m not entirely sure if the whole suite will be available) here is a link to the D2L web page outlining the various integrated tools. It looks great – and a leap forward from the current suite of tools we have.

Open Educational Resources

G’day everyone – it’s been a very long time since the last post. As we move towards planning for next year and increasing the flexibility of our courses, I’m thinking access to quality resources to supplement those already being used will become very useful.

The Open Education ‘movement’ aims to make resources readily available to anyone with internet access – students and teachers alike – and so here is the first of what I imagine will be a series of links to such resources.

Wikipedia describes Open Educational Resources as:

OERs include courses, course materials, content modules, learning objects, collections, and journals. OERs also comprise tools for delivering educational content, e.g. software that supports the creation, delivery, use and improvement of open learning content, searching and organization of content, content and learning management systems, content development tools, and on-line learning communities. Resources for the implementation of open education include intellectual property licenses that govern open publishing of materials, design-principles, and localization of content.[1][2]
